2·1 month ago“Have you tried being a furry chaser” is not what I expected but I suppose it does meet my given criteria, plus it’s an app so I’d say we all win this one

2·1 month agoThe ol “my life experience is universal” argument I see. I did move, everything I own fits into a backpack and a suitcase. I’m in this tiny ass town because it is where I could get a visa because I’m fleeing the US before they execute my trans ass. If I leave now we’re talking flushing literally tens of thousands usd down the drain on the off chance I manage to find another way to get a visa somewhere else.
So as far as dating goes again I’d love to know what the correct way is if not apps, and I’m vetoing “risk my life” options like moving.

14·1 month agoI live in a tiny ass town where the only two ways people socialize with strangers is drinking and maybe gambling and even then this is not a very social area. I am a currently sober alcoholic and even if I liked gambling I don’t have the money for it. Thoughts on how I can date ‘correctly’?

60·2 months agoI’m going to school right now for game design. I’m an international student hoping to work here after too. I’ve put all my eggs in this basket, I barely even have enough estimated money for a plane ticket home if I don’t get work right out of school
Let AAA burn. I want to see it collapse, I want to see all the big game companies shutter. Now is such a great time to see indie studios going wild making pieces of art and I want people working there instead

16·3 months agoOh good. I’ve been working on a setting for some-odd 16 years now. One of the earliest concepts in it is how the galaxy is run by an AI that subtly alters interstellar communications to influence things at scale without being discovered. Love that one of my existential fears of the future gets a shot at playing out irl

Games@lemmy.world•Video game PEGI age-ratings are changing in Europe from June. Four new categories added to tackle elements of addictive design, unmonitored online communication and loot boxesEnglish
1·3 months agoBasically the whole game lol. But off the top of my head a specific example is fishing crates are loot boxes. I don’t think it falls under the same category as being addictive as a core design choice or for money though it’s just legit an amazing game with a gameplay loop that draws you in

10·3 months agoThis is incredibly incorrect on basically every front my goodness please be a troll…
I’m just going to focus on one aspect: Not even a “software developer” is limited to just programmers

Wait hold on you seem to like AI:

Your insistence that only people who code are developers is factually incorrect, ignores how much design work can include coding, and the way you keep reasserting it is insulting.

38·3 months agoNot saying you’re wrong about there being a bias but also I suspect use is actually dropping off
I’m currently in game dev school. Many people here absolutely hate AI and refuse to even learn about using it. Of the few that are using AI they’re embarrassed about it. It’s also mostly used to generate code when a designer or artist needs some code and was never taught anything about programming. The code tends to be a disaster and because they don’t know how to fix it they get mad at the AI for giving them nonsense and mad at themselves for not just learning to code basic stuff. I haven’t seen anyone use AI for anything art related yet
People don’t become game devs for money. We’re artists looking to express ourselves in a human way to other humans. Regurgitron 9000 does not help us produce human relatable stuff and it certainly doesn’t help us express ourselves

61·4 months agoI am a programmer and I do not use AI, I’m going to school with some programmers who also do not use AI (some do some don’t). I don’t need luck to find like minded people.

22·4 months agoThat’s mostly because of programmers not autism, not all of us coders have autism. I mean I do, and I play Factorio, but these are all unrelated. I’m also trans and use Arch btw but those are irrelevant

Games@lemmy.world•Over 50% of game developers now think generative AI is bad for the industry, a dramatic increase from just 2 years ago: 'I'd rather quit the industry than use generative AI'English
114·4 months agoI’m working towards starting my own indie studio. Games are made for people to experience people emotions and it takes a person to be able to understand them in a way that can be accurately conveyed. When I make my studio there will be no generative AI, not in the product not in development. Probably there is a way to use it to streamline some stuff and I’d argue it’s difficult but possible to use it ethically but why the fuck would I want a computer to do my art for me? Why would I want to rob myself or my team of the opportunity to express themselves to other humans?
I made an AI generated cupcake recipe a while back. It was fine, it covered the bases, ratios were more or less correct, if someone were to give me one I’d eat it and not complain. But it was a technically correct cupcake not a good cupcake. It had no love, you could tell it had no love. People joke about that but it’s a real thing there’s something extra humans can do that AI can’t yet and maybe never will be able to, or not in a way humans relate with well. We’ve known how to make games with no love for a while now, that’s capitalism, but AI let’s us freeze dry the love out of everything at scale and the companies behind them are telling us that’s a good thing. Fuck that I’m not buying into it. I don’t make games for money, I barely make games for other people, tbh it isn’t even that fun most the time, I make games because it’s what makes the most sense to me for self expression. Games are what I know how to pour the most love into and an AI won’t help me with that.

Technology@lemmy.world•Copilot could soon live inside Windows 11's File Explorer, as Microsoft tests Chat with Copilot in Explorer, not just in a separate appEnglish
23·5 months agoI have to use Windows 11 for my school computer, not allowed to change the OS. I didn’t realize how shit awful explorer had gotten between 10 and 11. For anyone reading this who has to use 11: there are explorer alternatives. I use OneCommander and it let me change the default explorer for shortcuts and when other programs bring things up like with “show in folder” options. I don’t have to use windows explorer anymore and while it’s no Linux at least it doesn’t have fucking copilot and it gives me back basic control
