Oh, this is by the CrossCode devs? I’ve heard nothing but good things about that game.

DontNod really went and created a whole new genre of game, huh? What do we call these, Teenage Simulators?
I’m sure it’s great for the target audience and I like the music selection but… I’m too old for this, I think.

4·9 days agoThat’s great, because my first read of that adage was definitely the interpretation “don’t listen to user feedback”. But then again I don’t work in game dev. Or QA. Also I’m autistic.

1·12 days agoSometimes I think about whether I should do a month long platforming bootcamp or something, there is such huge swath of great games I am cut off from by both struggling with and struggling to enjoy platforming. Both MIO: Memories In Orbit and REPLACED that released this year look phenomenal but… yeah. Platforming.

10·13 days agoAh, it’s by the My Friend Pedro guy? That makes a lot of sense. I’m probably never going to touch a game that proudly extols itself as a precision platformer, but the gameplay looks great and tight if you’re into that sort of thing!

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Federation Has a European Legal ProblemEnglish
7·14 days agoThere is simply no way to comply with the law under this ruling.
In such a world, the only options are to ignore it, shut down EU operations, or geoblock the EU entirely. I assume most platforms will simply ignore it—and hope that enforcement will be selective enough that they won’t face the full force of this ruling. But that’s a hell of a way to run the internet, where companies just cross their fingers and hope they don’t get picked for an enforcement action that could destroy them.
There’s a reason why the basic simplicity of Section 230 makes sense. It says “the person who creates the content that violates the law is responsible for it.” As soon as you open things up to say the companies that provide the tools for those who create the content can be liable, you’re opening up a can of worms that will create a huge mess in the long run.
That long run has arrived in the EU, and with it, quite the mess
We’re all fucked I guess.

2·16 days agoOh fuck me I managed to exorcise Dota from my memory like the cancerous tumor it is. Yeah that might be my most played game overall actually, across Dota 1&2.
Not that I’m suggesting you starting to play again is a bad decision or anything. I’m sure you’ll have a great time.

1·16 days agoI would think probably Diablo 2 over the course of my childhood, although it’s hard to tell. It might be EVE Online, I was very much into that for a few years between 2010-2015 or so. And it’s not exactly a game you play casually, or at least I didn’t. Over the last decade it’s probably been Football Manager. 17 is the iteration I have the most hours in but I probably have a thousand hours combined across multiple editions across the last ten years.
EDIT: I actually managed to exorcise Dota from my memory, probably because of all the accumulated misery it has accrued. Yeah, that’s the one. Easily the most hours combined over Dota 1&2.
“You’re a good man, Arthur Morgan”
Meanwhile the good man in question has a kill count that would qualify for genocide according to most international standards.
I didn’t realise it was out!? God damn it my backlog is already a behemoth. I didn’t play the demo because I didn’t want to be spoiled but I loved the reveal trailer song and from what I’ve heard everyone who played it during next fest couldn’t stop gushing about it and talking about potential GOTY. So I’m very keen to try it.

5·24 days agoI am so completely torn on this game. On the one hand I suck at platformers and don’t much enjoy them and also from reviews it seems this game can be pretty fucking hard at times with some extremely precise timings.
On the other hand the game looks like an absolute work of art that I am craving to experience.
True gamers make do with a single mouse button. Mac is the ultimate platform.
They did a pretty significant marketing push on Twitch for Crimson Desert, but in financial terms I don’t know if that is all that expensive, and certainly not in relation to 5 million copies sold.
Ninja Gaiden 2 is calling.

31·1 month agoMy condolences.

I haven’t played it, just seen footage of it. So not sure I can really voice my opinion. And the game clearly isn’t for me anyway, regardless. I’m not American, and I don’t really enjoy other teenage simulators like Life is Strange.
I have nothing against walking simulators or interactive movies if it’s done well, so for me that part of the criticism falls flat. And the culture war bullshit is also just ridiculous. What I didn’t like from what I’ve seen was dialogue that sounds off, like teenagers not talking like actual teenagers talk. And also like, the game feels more like presenting an idealised picture of the concept of being a teenager inside a 90s Americana movie, rather than explore the struggles of being an actual teenager in actual real life.
But I don’t know, maybe this is what everyone’s teenage years looked like in the US and I just don’t get it. Which is fine. Like I said, I’m not the target audience.
