Narrative driven, story rich games don’t sell?

How many video game franchises are making the leap to tv/movies these days? Hint, it’s the ones with narrative driven, story rich games.

Go ahead and make pay to win mobile games, I don’t play them and they rake in millions so it makes perfect business sense.

But the idea that gamers don’t pay for good narrative driven, story rich games is laughable.

I think the biggest problem with a lot of game franchises have is they only sell the game. So much money is being left on the table with the best efforts being a screengrab lazily printed on a cheap shirt that sells maybe one or two.

If I could get some official, quality, Umbrella/Shinra/Arasaka/Faro corporation mugs, phone covers, meme tier shirts etc I’d be all over it.

Never played Dino crisis but I LOVE me some parasite eve.

Nothing against Dino crisis, just never got to play it, and definitely would take the opportunity.

Super pumped for onimusha reboot, would love to see modernization of Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, And do something interesting with megaman - like Devil may cry meets megaman.

This is more of a comment on the efficacy of having several media apparatus boast unified lies without consequences.

The absolute lack of consequences for blatantly lieing, omitting truth, falsifying information, and ignoring reality is why we are in this mess.

This can definitely be applied to both left and right, but the Left master plan seems to be “tolerance for all” and the Right master plan seems to be some hybrid business/monarchy system that obviously is trying to enslave 99% of the population.

Company wide meme emails that everyone participates in (team building) that crash servers and dominate inboxes

Pour sugar/crumbs everywhere so there’s pest problems

Accept every phishing email

Put USB sticks found on the ground into your work computer

Open the door for strangers who want to get in the building without a badge

Basically the “roadmap to success” used in other countries failed in Germany/Europe mostly because that “success” was only achievable through “human rights abuses” and “violating labor laws” that aren’t troublesome in parts of the world where labour rights are neutered at every opportunity, and large portions of the population people are too impoverished to afford necessities elsewhere

I’ve wondered about this, killing the “company” never really seemed like that big of a deal, as the structure (both physical building/tool/systems and operationally) don’t simply vanish. You still have the knowledge and skillsets in the population, and the supply chains still exist.

The real problem with these “too big to fail” entities is that the people pulling the levers that cause failures never have any consequences whatsoever.

Yeah, you’ll always need banks, energy, transportation, defence etc - operational mechanisms for exchanging goods, building, buying etc will never go away or ‘fail’ - but their operational practices absolutely could and should change

Super happy that strong unions in gaming are becoming a thing. Modern games are absolutely massive undertakings, and well made games provide so much more than just a one-off revenue stream that is often ignored by executives as business exists solely for money at the top.

A union made game that’s allowed to take the time it needs to be fully cooked will probably be the most popular/best game in the (any) franchise.

Unfortunately it will probably make 10% the money of some Fallout mobile game they churned out over a weekend that lets you buy a gold vault suit that doesn’t do anything for $4.99.

I don’t have a problem with companies making money off the free to play (and pay to win) model, but it’s sad to see them mistreat the IP that generates a dedicated fan base because the only thing that matters is immediate profit - which will hopefully be heavily mitigated by a union.

Government/police insist on having basically unlimited ability to spy on people within the US, and then maybe catch a part of one operation after collecting heaps of evidence over months/years with tons of victims irrevocably harmed - and eventually a few main people get like 3-5 years in prison on a plea deal.

I get the whole “building a case” thing, but letting multiple children get abused, while other sickos learn the ropes to eventually “get enough evidence” so a few people can plead guilty for a comparatively light prison sentences is absurd. Shut anything about it down immediately. Even if it doesn’t go to trial/conviction I’m sure the police have creative capacities to deal with child abusers outside of prison.

And people still think sex education in school is about teaching children how to preform sex acts, instead of helping them avoid predators.

Fully agree, the limited graphics really muted the effects and they became more prominent/ubiquitous as systems improved
