I really don’t think everyone is not an addict because of lack of opportunity. If anything I would say many addicts arise from an attempt to escape a reality that does not meet their needs.

This is why we really need a system where people can spend their whole paycheck and still be fine.
True but I often felt the push pull of the two groups. Especially in mmo’s. PVPers tended to be the challenge minded while PVEers tended more toward the role players. I often would chat about how I was just there to play with dolls.
Given all you have tried the only thing more I could say is trust cafe by the wikipedia guy. Unfortunately its not federated but it does have this neat thing where you can rate everything. Its basically like nuanced subscribe and block. You rate things between zero and 100 and I think zero would effictively be the same as blocking (which you can still do) and 100 would be the same as subscribing (which you can still do). Everything by default starts at a rating of 50. So its like you can be. mmmm. I like this guys post I will move him to 60. Or this guy seems a bit annoying I will drop him to 40 for now. Then over time the blocks and subscribes come out naturally.
Im a big believer in block. I think its better for people to peruse all and block communities they are uninterested in and you should totally block users you don’t like. To me it should be like real life. Don’t hang with folks you don’t like. My hope for the fediverse is instances that only remove things to stay out of legal trouble and communities that only block things that are unrelated. I want all the big tools to be at the user level. Bottom up.
Not sure if I agree but many rights are so important its hard to put one over another. Speech is very high on my list and the use of valuable in the title is strange. I don’t see the qote anywhere in the article though but what they do say is powerful:
“I think of privacy from the framework of fundamental human rights, the rights of private communication, to live a private life, to think and do and communicate with who you want."
“We can’t build new worlds, we can’t imagine new paradigms without that incubation space, without the safety to experiment with ideas and think about what could work or not.”
me2. its like seeing a donald trump is dying to eat bigmacs headline.
I have not had it crash for me in years.
It is to me. For documents I tend to export as a pdf so there is no formatting issues on the other persons end with the file. If they ask for a microsoft format I save it as that and send it to them.
I keep wondering about aptera. They are just getting their production ready model going and I can’t help but think if they don’t have production to far setup in california they would be smarter to do it in ireland. The carbon fiber body comes from europe and the batteries from asia. So evern if they build it in the us it will suffer tariffs for like 2/3rds of the cost or higher and it will effect everything sold everywhere. If they built it in ireland then it would be way cheaper everywhere but the us and the us cost would not be all that much higher than it would be if they built it here. I assume anything else with such a diverse supply chain would be effected similarly. Like boeing vs airbus.
I don’t see one unless our society because less dependent on bullshit and honors privacy. I don’t know about anyone else but I constantly bullshit specifics about myself on line to dirty up any data collected on me.
aughts were not bad but it was falling and once we got in the teens ugh. oh and old man thing the pre www was advertisement free which was awesome.
lets not forget browbeating the fed to drop interest rates before covid hit.
people never take things as intended. always over reacting.
I do miss the way I used to be where I would get things exactly as I want and experiment with things. Now I just want to slap something on and be using it within the hour.
this is going to be bad unless we have a hyper competent and knowledgeable commander in chief!
You know the thing about idiocracy and now is we have people now who look at the headlines and are like WTF! No need for the frozen person from the past. The inmates are in charge of the asylum.
yeah I would do this if it worked over starlink provided it gave as good or better connection.
that takes me back.
