Looks like their caster rolled a nat 20 and scored the crit of a lifetime.
I don’t know what went wrong that such a patent was granted. I absolutely loathe IP people.
Someone got paid, guaranteed.
Definition of shortstack lol.
“Hey ChatGPT, how many human corpses can 12 pigs who haven’t been fed in a week process”?
It’s crazy, it’s as if these corporations don’t WANT my money. Never, EVER buy into day 1 DLC, it’s the most anti-consumer practice in the entire games industry.
It would make sense if it’s a scheme to inject ads directly into the stream so adblockers wouldn’t work anymore.
The people pulling the strings have obviously decided that internet freedom is a threat to them and they’re taking (global) action to ensure their supremacy.
I’ll probably still buy it… in a year or two, heavily discounted with all dlc included. But at these prices and conditions at launch? Lol.
Lemmy isn’t monolithic. They’d have to hit every instance separately. The big ones like lemmy.world are a prime target though.
I doubt it, since all it ostensibly does is summarize info the user has released freely. How that info is stored and retained exactly might be up for debate though.
*Have been made long ago and are being constantly updated.
Snowden already warned us about this over a DECADE ago. Their scopes and powers will have increased exponentially. And that was under ‘trustworthy’ administration. I guarantee there’s a type of system in place that flags people before they do anything, just on pattern recognition alone. Of course, they can’t use that system as a legal basis for anything, so they don’t and use parallel constructions instead.
Anyone who thinks “this is coming” hasn’t been paying attention. We’re already there and beyond.
Thank god they can’t do shit to TPB and its ilk since those are already illegal anyway.
Same. I feel like Lemmy is really a lot like early Reddit (pre 2012) and the sizes of the communities are perfect. You can actually contribute to a discussion instead of drowning in 20k inane joke posts.
Some niches remain underpopulated but I feel like this will eventually rectify itself as the more critical and thoughtful people move away from vapid platforms like Reddit, FB or IG. We’ll continue to welcome them with open arms.
Hmm, mine uninstalled without issue but I haven’t yet fully rebooted. Might still get an error at that point. Fingers crossed.
EDIT: reboot completed without issue. Guess I’ve been lucky. My main drive is not one of the affected ones and I didn’t write anything noteworthy to the affected ones when the update was installed, so should be all good from here out.
I am using three drives on that list. Uninstalled KB5063878 and blocked updates for over a month.
Paxton is like a can of RAID; toxic AF but occasionally useful against dirty roaches.
Eventually we’ll have “defensive” and “offensive” llm’s managing all kinds of electronic warfare automatically, effectively nullifying each other.
Lol we’re doomed.
