This is absolutely not ‘the only way forward’. Hardware attestion is much more secure and doesn’t rely on third parties to give you permission on how you use your own device.
Lets hope enough developers boycott this awful initiative. Graphene are asking devs to boycott this and hopefully they can get enough momentum behind getting this blocked -
I remember few years back, maybe like 3 years after Witcher 3 and it was on sale for 90% off. Like multiple times I saw it on sale for super cheap.
I’ve been waiting for a similar thing with Cyberpunk n its not got anywhere near that. Cheapest i’ve seen it is around 65/70% with the expansion considerably more expensive still.
Witcher 3 is now more expensive than it was more than 8 years ago! That is wild!

Okay yeah, thats a more accurate picture.
I honestly think im glad i missed his cringe douche phase. I actually hate that whole influencer youtube bullshit.
But he really is not like those twats now lol

I like that you like him now… But i don’t think the main reason he’s become cool now is due to him… not wanting to be cringe lol.
Obv yeah the audience n he grew but it sorta takes agency away from him by knowing its all bullshit haha. Like yes, he’s a huge YouTube star but he’s also now huge advocate of privacy, security and mental health.
He’s not just doing this cos he doesnt wanna be cringe.

This is such an idiotic take. Yes i get it, Brave do try to offer some bullshit features out of the box, but there’s not many (if any) that don’t. You are not supporting scams or homophobia by using Brave.
You can very easily and quickly lock down Brave to remove all their nonsense. This is just the same like you do with other browsers so all good.
Yeah, company is shady, but browser is still grand for now if you do your own lockdown of features.
If you wish a browser rec, please go with Mullvad.

I know Brave is a big no no in these woods but they offer an option to select your own Content Filtering lists and one of those is Youtube Shorts.
Fantastic privacy feature.
Also they have Paywall Blocker, AI Suggsstion Blocker… Etc etc

I totally missed him being a Youtube jackoff and only watched my first Pewdiepie video last year when he was degoogling. Because I was doing that as well. Then saw his Linux video and that made me realise Linux was for me.
So while people might think he’s some sort of douche, to me he’s just fucking brilliant! So funny and smart, and really wants to help people escape from the awful internet we have now, where everything is sucking up your data. He gives great advice on how to do that and does it in such a funny way.
People keep mentioning his redemption arc lol, but i’ve just seen the great stuff so for me, abs love his stuff! Highly recommended!
Best thing for Linux, having such a huge Youtuber praising it so much!
I think the thing that will really push it into this kind of territory is if a company sells their desktop PCs with Linux already installed.
Similar to how Steam used Linux for the Steam Deck and how that allowed far, far more people to experience Linux.
Similar to how Linux (Android) has a huge market share on phones - because it came pre-installed!
Like most normal people, outside of tech probably haven’t even heard of Linux. Some people arent even aware there are more options other than Windows.
So yeah, I think the more that big companies start selling their products with Linux pre-installed, the closer we get to 20%!
(Side note I think Linux might be closer to 10% already, although theres no real way to tell. Most estimates we have are massive underestimates since most people simply turn off telemetry on their Linux installs where possible, we Linux users are not usually the type to allow our data to be harvested so easily lol)

From checking the instructions on fitgirl, the extra steps are really not good (for whether it works on linux) because the more weird stuff you need to do with the repack to get them working on Windows, means there’s even more ways for this to then break on Linux.
Definitely something you could try to get working. Best of luck with it!
Also if it is a bit of a struggle to get working or not, I hope you don’t give up on trying Linux. It really is a great operating system and the vast majority of games do run. Just so happens these types of anti cheat shooters are built to block Linux

Specifically answering the COD part, if you mean any of the new Call of Duty’s - almost certainly not. They will simply not work on Linux.

The hubris lol… Oh the hubris!
“Who needs beta testing or early access, we made Anthem, this will be brilliant! Who needs a staff, we can run it with the bare minimum.”
Feel sad for all the devs who already lost their jobs a few weeks back n now these last few left but fuck that company! Thought they could simply profit off all the work from their staff by sacking them all immediately after release.
Sometimes companies do get exactly what they deserve.

Since you specifically mentioned gaming and streaming, a great option for you as a beginner is Nobara.
It is built specifically for gaming and streaming and has many of the tools pre-installed and makes DaVinci Resolve setup really easy (is a challenge otherwise lol). It’s based on Fedora, heavily modified kernel for performance and makes Fedora ready for gaming out of the box (which is why I discourage Fedora for gaming as a beginner, that takes a lot of set up for gaming and nvidia).
Nobara is also great for beginners because it comes with some brilliant GUI options - apps that let you click onto the specific drivers, packages you might need and the Welcome app includes options step by step of what to install. You will mostly use such an app for updates, so it takes away a lot of the fear of the terminal (but you can still use no problem). It also includes some great options for streaming apps you’ll need.
Also comes with KDE as its main suggestion (Nobara version of it or pure KDE, very little difference, basically the same with a few extra Nobara icons added i think). KDE is a fantastic DE, the workflow is similar to Windows out of the box and you won’t be unfamiliar with it, great one to start with. Plus its so customisable so you can get it looking very different from windows if you wish (which i did with mine).
They have a great Discord too if you wanna ask any questions about specific games or issues. It’s basically Fedora but gentler learning curve and everything you need ready to go out of the box

I bought a laptop very similar (same model group but from the year after) to this just before Christmas for my niece. Got it 2nd hand, as my brother was just looking a laptop that she could browse on and maybe do some homework.
I refurbished it and got it cleaned up and I tried lubuntu, xubuntu, linux mint xfce and one other (forget now). Same thing kept happening. Would simply freeze when trying to boot them. Had removed Secure Boot too.
After couple days of trying I ended up giving up and going with a Windows 10 LTSC IoT version from Massgrave for her.
Wish I had better news or something more productive for you. Sorry!
Yep definitely AI slop.
Basic definitions, ‘not only x but so many sets of three’ -
"Power, duty, and an honour
elections, referendum and political initiatives
institutions, private entities and peers
a particular perspective, prioritizing certain needs and choosing the way we interact with technology"
That was only the first few paragraphs. Gave up after that, such a worthless read. I’ve got more important stuff to do, like watch paint dry.
At least take something useful from it - at least we know thelibre.news is pure trash.
