For sure and I agree that should be enough but the average person is not good with computers and they don’t want to learn. They won’t understand the nuances of different distributions of Linux. Like try explaining the difference between a .deb, a .tar.gz, and a .rpm to a person who’s already hésitent about using Linux. Flatpak solves that by just having one download that any Linux install can use

Oh 100% but have you tried to explain how to use one to a computer novice? Like yes, the answer is usually “they should just…” but novice users will never. With flatpak, they get an experience similar to how MacOS works and a bit like how .exes work and it Just Works™️
Edit: like I’ve had trouble showing people how to use the GNOME App Store which could not be any more simple. Anyone who has been convinced to install Linux already feels way out of their element so making everything feel as natural as possible is essential (and I mean, flatpaks are awesome anyway)
I love installing things from the CLI and prefer to only do it that way but Linux needs a single click install method for applications if it’s ever going to become a mainstream OS. The average person just wants to Google a program, hit download and install. If not that then they want to use a mobile-like App Store.
Flatpak is kind of perfect at achieving both those things

I’ve never watched him (I hated him when he would just scream at video games) but he seems to be a lot more mature these days. He even posted a video on why you should switch to Linux recently
I asked OP to update the title in another comment which they did (and appreciate) but it made this comment of mine confusing 😅. The original title didn’t have any mention of which country. It just said they were adding a paywall
The original title just said something like “BBC is now paywalled” making it sound like it applied to more than 1 of the 195 (worldometers.info recognised) countries in the world.
I’m not British but it’d be pretty alarming to hear that the BBC was adding a paywall that applied to the British if I was British
Awesome thanks! 😊
I love the US defaultism even when they’re talking about another country’s public news station
(edit: the title originally just said it was adding a paywall without mention of any country)
BBC announced it’s introducing a paywall for consumers in the U.S
It seems like it’s only for the US? If that’s true can you update the title OP

3·5 months agoIt was well known a decade ago in the Minecraft community. Truthfully there’s been very few updates for the last few years so this did seem sort of inevitable. It’s sad though since Minecraft doesn’t have a proper competitor right now (something that isn’t just a Unity asset flip). The promise of true modding support alone was enough to get me excited for it

2·5 months agoI’m not sure what your point is? I never said cars weren’t leading traffic. I think we’ve both kind of lost the plot here but my point was that cars aren’t a requirement to live. If they are in your city or area (outside of rural), then you should advocate for better transit and urban design.
Also note that I never said cars should be outright banned or anything of that sort

22·5 months agoOkay, then advocating for better urban planning and less urban sprawl. Unless you live in a rural area, you shouldn’t be required to go into debt to pay for a multi ton machine to be able to buy food. It’s odd that only in the last hundred years humans have stopped being able to function day to day without vehicles.

Ah, that’s actually what I was thinking of in my previous comment
