Looks like I’m installing Linux tonight.
Looks like I’m installing Linux tonight.
The average human considers the Pythagorean theorem “sophistication”. Let’s not take our education for granted.
What about the right to be forgotten? Where is that feature? Why isn’t Microsoft making and marketing a version of Windows with something like “Windows Forget”?
I’ll tell you why: no opportunity to double dip by collecting and selling your personal data.
To be fair the possibility of compromise was enough not to do it. Being sure of compromise doesn’t change that math all that much.
Right. Microsoft themselves just announced a feature to disable screenshoting some webpages in Edge, which is a complete 180 from recall.
I expect windows to be split into two tiers of products again: the free version that is paid for by ads/tracking/AI bloatware possibly even mandatory cloud connectivity, and an enterprise version with all off that off, but that is paid.
Right? The concert is not the problem. The problem is who is paying for it/who is deserving of this (or any other) company benefit.
Though I guess there is an argument to be had that the performers are enabling class exploitation instead of standing in solidarity. Then again, it’s entirely plausible that the performers don’t know any of these details.
Calling it the “Googlenet” now. The rest of us that don’t suck Google dick can stay on the actual Internet.
The noise complaints and landing safety issues are definitely a problem, but the cost savings potential and sustainability/safety effects of taking delivery trucks (or your car to the mall) off the road is a huge win.
I can see how noise and landing safety issues delivering to your property can really stall this. However, landing to an approved and managed community mailbox (or rooftop delivery zone in dense areas) might avoid some of those issues.
Nothing is going to change until people die because of this shit.
It gains value because people want it and people want it because it gains value
This describes pretty much all moneys.
Cryptocurrencies have a lot of problems, but being a medium of exchange without intrinsic value is not one of them.
They don’t. Just like “AI” has been co-opoted to mean “algorithm”.
Large groups of humans turn everything they touch into shit.
This comment implies that no humans were involved with operating the AI. Seems doubtful.
It’s one thing for out of touch executives who blindly replace entire departments with “AI” while fundamentally misunderstanding the role of the department being replaced and the capability of AI, tanking the quality of the product–that’s real self harm for everyone involved; it’s another thing to be advancing the creative processes with more advanced tools and automation, something that we’ve been doing for centuries without much fuss.
The creative part of voice acting isn’t just in moving one’s lips. The creative part of voice acting is just as much, if not more, in feeling and direction–in deciding if a sound sample produces a certain desired emotion, and if that emotion is valuable to the overall experience or not. This is not the territory of generative AI. This is the territory AGI, which does not yet exist. Producing the sound with your lips is just a small part of that. There’s still a human involved in producing the work of art (and if not, then yeah, we are back at that first category, of leadership ignorant of the creative process, and we should bemoan a crappy product lead by executives who have no clue how to retain talent).
knows me extremely well, is able to tirelessly work on my behalf, and has a personality tailored to my needs and interests.
Those may still be ANI applications.
Today’s LLM’s marketed as the future of AGI are more focused on knowing a little bit about everything. Including a little bit about how MRIs work and a summary of memes floating around a parody subreddit. I fail to see how LLM’s as they are trained today will know you extremely well and give you a personality tailored to your needs. I also think commercial interests of big tech are pitted against your desire for “tirelessly work[ing] on my behalf”.
The big problem with AI butlers for research is, IMO, stripping out the source takes away important context that helps you decide wether the information you are getting is relevant and appropriate or not. Was the information posted on a parody forum or is it an excerpt from a book by an author with a Ph.D. on the subject? Who knows. The AI is trained to tell you something that you want to hear, not something you ought to hear. It’s the same old problem of self selecting information, but magnified 100x fold.
As it turns out, data is just noise without some authority or chain of custody behind it.
They’ve stubbornly not gotten an SSL because they transact 0 data beyond band name searches.
Even if sites do not store user account data, such as passwords, ALL websites, and I mean ALL, handle user data, because merely accessing pages (urls) is user data.
Stubbornness is not a good reason not to setup SSL. Encryption should always be on, all the time, for everything.
What makes you say Brother printers are bad? I’ve had no complaints with them at all.
Capitalism has a lot of problems, but the freedom given to a seller to set their prices to whatever they like and watch the buyer decide it is not a fair price and go buy from someone else is not one of them.
This is a win for everyone.
I also have the same question. So I upvoted you. Also, where does this fall on the chart?
Smarter Americans in that past recognized that freedom, including the free market, doesn’t just happen of its own accord, that it has to be defended, legislated. That is how antitrust laws came to be in arguably the most capitalist nation on earth.
Apathetic Americans now have lost sight of the importance of protecting their freedoms.
“Illegal” is not just some hypothetical moral absolute. It is the politics of defending one’s values. Americans clearly no longer value either their freedoms or the free market.
It’s set in 2077. Why the F does it need to feel American? There’s enough Americana in media already.
