I mean peer tube and similar exist. I think the majority of channels with over a 25k views, I don’t think there’s a consistant number anyone gets, but something like 100 bucks per 25k views or so is pretty common.

I mean it’s a mixed bag… I get the idea of nothing should be removed, blocked, downvoted etc… as the ideal of free speach.
Right up until you look at every platform that explicitly avoids it and goes full “We’re all about free speech!”.
IE huge problem is, the first people to jump to those platforms, are the ones that have been banned for good reason from everywhere else. Which of course means… nazi’s come in droves Reasonable people that either have less borderline, or perhaps no borderline thoughts get there… see 500 posts from nazi’s, and head for the door imidiately, until it just turns into a nazi echo chamber.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google warns quantum computers could hack encrypted systems by 2029English
4·17 days agoFairly not super experienced on things. but how viable is a layered system, does it just prohibitively slow or storage consuming or is it moderately feasible to say double encapsulate everything.
Also western propaganda. Russia isnt ‘taking’ anything theyre liberating Ukrainians who have been under the rule of an illegitimate empire installed government since 2014 and have already voiced they want to be closer to russia
Ah yes good old liberating the people, kind of like when Iraq and Venuzuela hailed the united states as liberators,
best I’m finding on that polling is https://www.kiis.com.ua/?lang=eng&cat=reports&id=236
To which, almost 70% supported open borders and friendly relations with russia, with absolute seperation and complete mergers both being under 15%.
Also if they wanted to just let russia have ukraine why haven’t they done another revolution like they did their pro russian leader that tore up the EU negotiations they had.
North korea can be propogandized like crazy because… unfortunately one of it’s defining traits is preventing it’s people from talking to the world. Ukranians seem pretty darn determined not to be “liberated”. Hell I’d imagine the war would be over pretty darn fast if the ukranians wanted it. White flags, surrender, get captured to protect themselves if their government is making them fight by intimidation.
Pretty big chunk of rare earth minerals.
Yeah the big thing to me is the problem of the invader. Honestly on the grand scheme of things I dont’ care who does what… but what really needs to happen is, people need to stop going on the offense. US, Isreal and Russia are currently all the ones leading attacks in other people’s territory.
I’m happy for China in their "my way works, watch me sit back and show you how successful I can be in normal peacetime. When a nation has to raid other nations for their resources or land, that’s IMO demonstrating what you have is unsustainable.
Ukrain take or leave it’s intentions how good or bad it is. what’s clear is showing the idea that russia can just take it, is in itself a bigger problem. Just like Iran, I have zero sympathy for the government of Iran, I consider them barbaric and horrible. That being said directly attacking them, is a horrible action.
I mean it’s a grey area there… I think the overall propoganda created after vietnam (Rambo movies etc…), helped people learn to seperate and understand that a war can be wrong, and the soldiers can be good people serving their country.
IE maybe it’s the bubbles I live in, and most these memories are pre-trump, but I heard no shortage of people that could go off for hours on how horrible the war on terror was, how stupid and monsterous bush was to send so many to kill and be killed, and still go out of their way to say “thank you for your service” to men coming back from iraq.

8·1 month agoDoubly so factoring in it’s right now at a time when, hardware costs are skyrocketing. Getting a PC with the same specs as the one I bought in 2023, is almost double the price today. Even steam machines and consoles are delaying themselves because they can’t find a way to release at a reasonable price point.
Everyone has basically been told “3 months ago was the last time to buy a computer for a while until either the AI bubble pops, or some magical huge increase in manufacturing happens to keep up with demand”. Point is this is literally the worse time in history to tell people to go buy a new PC.

IE the groups making the cracks don’t want the added legal risks of providing the actual game files themselves. So if joe makes the crack but doesn’t want to risk sending the software, then that means it’s up to someone else to provide the software without the crack.

We’ll own nothing and pay through the nose to continue to access everything.

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon's Ring and Google's Nest Unwittingly Reveal the Severity of the U.S. Surveillance StateEnglish
9·2 months agoThe point is whether or not it happens, as a parable it’s validity is sound. Point is, if even if the current government has nothing but good intentions and would never use the information to do anything you don’t agree with, and you are in perfect agreement with the current government. There is always the risk of either the government changing or someone stealing the information from the government that could weaponize it in ways you would never want.
what’s crazy to me is the people who defend this type of stuff, are the ones that are also terrified of gun registration… because you know if one day a gun ban were put in place, having a list of where all the guns are would make confiscation easy and legal. But they don’t realize that it’s just as likely for them to hunt people who spoke out against the government, or were the wrong race… or hell, just possibly see that you have a gun because you took it home on a ring cam.
