Games@lemmy.world•Skyblivion fan project lead reacts to Oblivion remake news with "all love and no hate"English
5·7 months agoskyblivion is great marketing, and it’s free to let them keep going for now. Keep people excited about a new oblivion, and then kill the only other option besides yourself. I actually think it’s more likely than not that there is a last minute reversal.

Memes@lemmy.ml•There are also no good Switch games (I refuse to buy any and only download the free ones from the eShop)
5·9 months agoThere really were some great ones. Playing through Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops still stands out to me over a decade on. Shit was tight, and I honestly didn’t feel that again after the PSP. Until I picked up my steam deck, that thing would have rendered 10 year old me catatonic.

Games@sh.itjust.works•'Deep Rock Galactic' creator has been approached about a TV adaptationEnglish
13·2 years agoI could see it working as an animated “job of the week” sitcom style show about a team of DRG miners. There’s nothing about DRG that ties it too strongly to the concept though. You could just make a show about space dwarves without any mention of DRG, might even be easier without whatever “lore” the game has in place (I like the game a lot, but if there’s a story I haven’t found it).

Technology@lemmy.world•Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ will start cracking down on password sharing | CNN BusinessEnglish
6·2 years agoInterestingly enough, 2/3 of those are subs I dropped within the last year or so based on a lack of quality/content for what they cost (never bothered with ESPN, NHL games are easy to find). Seems like streaming is starting to collapse a lot quicker than TV did.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Lemmy when someone posts memes about obese people
1·2 years agoI think it’s just something people are sensitive about, and understandably so. Most obese people (by choice; i.e. self admittedly just have a bad diet and sedentary lifestyle) I know are never really offended by memes and consistently express a desire to do better. Fact is fixing the problem is genuinely difficult once you pass a certain point, as it requires a dramatic lifestyle change. Anyone who says that is easy is full of shit.
I avoid jokes like that mostly because it feels like punching down on people who are not happy with their health/weight and struggling to fix it. Especially when it’s the typical low hanging fruit, it’s just not fun when the joke makes me feel like kind of an ass.
Theres some truth to this, but a lot of people do use this as a shield against the general cultural acceptance that piracy is stealing or otherwise morally underhanded. I do it, but I don’t have any illusion I’m one of the activists. I just get indignant and refuse to pay someone for content or entertainment who I think is damaging to the medium or predatory in general. I feel like if I really wanted to make a statement, I just wouldn’t consume their work at all – but life is short and I want to have my cake and eat it too.

I definitely see this. I think, at least the way I’ve used it, it’s replaced rentals for me (I miss video stores). I’ve picked it up 2-3 times, each time to play a specific game and cancelled at the end of the month. I’ve absolutely saved money that way, and didn’t really care about owning the content I was getting it for.
Don’t take this as an endorsement though. I don’t think that’s the intended use, and I doubt it would last if everyone did the same. Besides the price hike takes it out of that reasonable territory for the rental idea, at least for me.
