  • In October of last year my mom came home from the ICU, now unable to get out of bed. I replaced all the bulbs in the house with smart bulbs and put the fans on a little smart plug thing. It made me really like the idea of home smart home features, but I’m not techy. They’re just Alexa enabled for her to use with the fire stick, and I use google home on my phone for em.

Can you offer any advice for ones that don’t require internet? Every time our power goes out (any time there’s a storm), I have to go around and reset them while they flash at me like the worst night club

  • My most lucid ever dream turned into a terrifying figure of a witch/crone slamming me in the chest while screaming “you’re not supposed to be here!” And waking me up. Scared the shit out of me. Didn’t try again for a few years. Everything was fine, but as soon as the woman in the field saw that I was lucid she changed. On several occasions dream characters had become irritated with me when they realized I was lucid, but that one… She made me afraid to sleep again. I know that’s not rational, and I know there’s nothing actually supernatural going on… But damn did it freak me out

  • That’s called a reality check, and it’s a pretty common for lucid dreaming. The one I went with was placing my fingertips over my nostrils and breathing in through my nose. If you can breathe, you’re dreaming. Picked that one because it’s inconspicuous, just looks like you’re scratching your nose. But the idea is to get into a habit of it so frequently that it’s unconscious, and something your dream self will do. If you do it in a dream, you become aware because you’re so conditioned to it, and you’re able to start lucid dreaming. Works pretty well.

Also, good on you for being so aware of what you needed to do! I don’t know if most kids would have come up with that, and that’s super clever and mature.

  • I’m lucky, I have a decent social circle, and I see them just about as often as I want. I’m just so much of an introvert that I don’t often try to see anyone. I’ll finish the bachelor’s, and if I can do it, I’m going for an MFA after. My grades are amazing, so I’m pretty confident. The part that scares me is being without her, not the finances. I’ll live in a car if I need to, I’ve done it before. Work night shift security and park somewhere semi safe and I’ll be fine. But the idea of not having her is absolutely terrifying. My whole life she’s been my best friend, and it’s really scary to see her not able to get out of the bed now. I know people say their parents are their friends, but I mean it. We talk about everything, play games. Anything happens, she’s my first thought. Major Mama’s boy. Haha

I’m really sorry you’ve lost both your parents, and that it’s been a rough transition. If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of work do you do? If you’re in the US, security pays kinda shitty, but generally above minimum wage by quite a bit, and most sites are so easy you can do whatever you want at work, video games, movies, or even college classes if you’re so inclined. I wish I’d signed up for SNHU when I was still doing security, I’d have that MFA by now, but my dumbass never thought I was able to handle college until I bit the bullet during the pandemic.
