Orphaned domains like this are interesting, there was a defcon talk, I think, where the presenter bought a bunch of blacklisted orphaned domains just to see if anything would try and connect to them. They got hit with so many botnet clients trying to phone home.
I would double and triple check your not transcoding. Even if you’re watching on the client at whatever the files native resolution is depending on the codec of the file you might still be transcoding. For instance with 1080p anything h265 or AV1 is transcoded into h264 by the server. There’s also a few other situations where Plex with force transcoding or down convert the video whether you want it to or not.
Your NAS shouldn’t be having trouble serving the file to Plex I’d bet it’s transcoding in the background and you just don’t realize it.

But on the opposite end games are only getting bigger and fast internet is still semi expensive so having large drives would be beneficial to people that want to keep multiple games installed on their PC/console.
Yeah it definitely a good option depending on your local used market and or what you can find on eBay.
Nah mine draw less than 10 watts at idle, unless you’re constantly loading the cpu you’re not going to see even 25 watts.
I’ve got three different sff desktop units running various apps on them. If you look around you can usually find the tiny form factor business desktops from Dell, HP, and Lenovo used and a few years old for under 100 bucks a piece. The most expensive of the three I bought was a Dell with a 9600t for 90 bucks about a year and a half ago.
I used to work with a couple Czech dudes. One day my coworkers and I were badgering the one dude to tell us a Czech joke. He was pretty reluctant because he said he could only really think of one joke but wasn’t sure it would translate well. When he finally told us the joke he got us with this masterpiece.
Two balloons are floating along, one says to the other and hey look a cactus.
All of us were confused by this, he told us it was much funnier in Czech because balloon and cactus sound similar so it’s a pun. So we had him tell us the joke untranslated in Czech and balloon and cactus sound nothing alike.
I’m still not sure if this dude was fucking with us.

My NAS is on an embedded Xeon that at this point is close to a decade old and one of my proxmox boxes is on an Intel 6500t. I’m not really running anything on any really low spec machines anymore, though earlyish in the pandemic I was running boinc with the Open Pandemics project on 4 raspberry pis.
I work overnight at a home Depot, this has not been my experience.
I bought a Grandstream GWN7660 last year and it seems pretty good, it replaced a ubiquity WAP that I still have legacy devices connected to.

I can’t wait for the people that are still on the gamer gate wagon to get ahold of one of these games, find out it’s ass, and then claim the only people that don’t like it are the woke mob that kills art.

There’s a reason Dr. Oz and Herschel Walker were both running in 2022.
It’s also the same gesture he uses when talking about Arnold Palmer, it can get confusing.

Y’all remember when we found out all the AI in the walkout Amazon grocery stores was just a bunch of dudes in an Indian call center watching cameras? That would be hilarious if this was the same, some random dude in India sshs into this dude computer then gets annoyed about it if date packages on the system and it spirals from there.
I’d just like to point out the rumor from the Steele dossier wasn’t that Trump got peed on by prostitutes it’s that he paid them to pee on a bed that the Obamas had once slept in which is somehow weirder to me.
When I was younger, maybe junior high, I got roped into watching my 3 month old niece while my sister got her hair done. So there I am, sitting in the waiting area of a hair salon with my niece, and who walks in but John Goodman!
I was nervous as fuck, and just kept looking at him as he read a magazine and waited, but didn’t know what to say. Pretty soon though my niece started crying, and I’m trying to quiet her down because I didn’t want her to bother Mr Goodman, but she just wouldn’t stop. Pretty soon he gets up and walks over. He started running his hands through her hair and asking what was wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry or something. So, John put down his magazine, picked up my niece and lifted his shirt. He breast fed her right there in the middle of a hair salon. Chill guy, really nice about it.

I work in retail, but my homelab isn’t super extensive just a nas, a Plex server, and a couple proxmox boxes.
Closet I’ve ever come to being in IT was back when I was still in college and took some a networking class and some web development classes but that was many moons ago.

Yeah the support is what pulls me to them but anymore unless I need the form factor of the pi it’s hard to justify them. Like the only place I see a hobbyist use for the Pi is 3d printers. Outside of that everything else seems like a small form factor desktop is better.

This the route I went too, a couple years ago I found a tiny form factor Lenovo with a 6500t on eBay for a little under 70 bucks shipped and then I found a tiny Dell with a 9500t on my local Craigslist for 100 bucks.
They’re good little boxes.
