Pi 4 has over twice the performance per watt (see https://the-diy-life.com/raspberry-pi-drag-race-pi-1-to-pi-5-performance-comparison/), so I think that may be the sweet spot for certain uses, but I agree that the 3 is still a perfectly capable device for so many projects.
Also the 3 is the last one to have a full HDMI port which makes it really appealing for display related projects.
After reading your comment on price I checked Microcenter, an authorized pi dealer, and you’re right. The pi 5 with 16gb is listed at $200.

You should take notes about how you set up each app. I have a directory for each self hosted app, and I include a README.md that includes stuff like links to repos and tutorials, lists of nuances of the setup, itemized lists of things that I’d like to do with it in the future, and any shortcomings it has for my purposes. Of course I also include build scripts so I can just “make bounce” and the software starts up without me having to remember all the app-specific commands and configs.
If a tutorial gets you 95% of the way, and you manage to get the other 5% on your own, write down that info. Future you will be thankful. If not, write a section called “up next” that details where you’re running into challenges and need to make improvements.

I hate the notch, and I used to say I’d rather have a bezel, but after going back to one of my pre-notch laptops, not having a bezel is nice. I still hate the notch though. I wish I could opt for just not having a built in webcam. It’s not like they use it for faceid, and I use an external webcam for work meetings anyway. Plus the iPhone seamlessly works as a webcam.

This is not true. There are multiple third party apps that help you avoid having menu icons disappear behind the notch. I don’t use those though, and instead blindly drag my menu icons behind the notch repeatedly until the one I want pops out from behind it.
