This is a whole new level of enshitification.
I hear what you’re saying, but I’d still like to see numbers before taking a stance.
That was my first thought too, but I’m not so sure. I’d love to see data on it. I did a quick search and couldn’t find any numbers, but I did find articles talking about Amazon requiring exclusivity in some cases. https://www.ingramspark.com/blog/amazon-exclusive-options-createspace-kdp-select-and-acx
They don’t perform these acts because they hate anybody. It’s theater. But Donald Trump will never accept that as long as he is one of the caricatures on stage. His ego is too fragile.
I saw them in like 2009 and they did the same thing to Obama and Hillary.
Please let it be a low denomination coin so I can have trains run over his face.
I recently heard this great phrase:
“A VM makes an OS believe that it has the machine to itself; a container makes a process believe that it has the OS to itself.”
This would be somewhere between that, where each container could believe it has the OS to itself, but with different kernels.
My area has a playground built to accommodate disabled children and the adjacent property is a gun range. There are also soccer fields. Imagine children going down the slide and swinging and kicking the ball around all to the sound of not-so-distant gunfire. The 200 meter range even shoots towards the soccer fields.
Imagine if vendors like Anbernic started shipping devices that had phone hardware supported with open software. That would be so rad. They already run android and Linux and have a vibrant community.
It’s so ironic that valetudo doesn’t support roomba considering roombas used to be a hackable robotics platform, even selling the robots without the vacuum components, with many models of vacuums shipping with serial ports right on top.
And while it’s too soon to declare August 2025 the start of the AI winter, or the AI correction, or the AI bubble bursting, or whatever slowdown metaphor you prefer, it is undeniable that a series of industry stumbles is making investors, businesses and customers do a double-take.
Not that I think that their relationships were healthy, but dude, c/selfhosted. Needing a subscription for something you plan to interface with daily forever is a recipe for financial burden. Giving control and maintenance of that software to another entity is a recipe for letdown.
