Linux@lemmy.ml•rmlint: Extremely fast tool to remove duplicates and other lint from your filesystem

I use Spectacle for taking screenshots and I’ve enjoyed using it for several years. After that, I’d crop it in any image editor that has a freehand selector tool. Gimp would be the first thing I tried, but I’m sure you could find something easily enough.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Internal microphone not being detected pleaseee helppp
3·8 months agoDumb question: do you have a key on your keyboard that disables the microphone? I don’t have my laptop in front of me, but I know there’s a key that disables the trackpad and another that disables the camera. I realized that I’d accidentally hit those by going through something similar to this.
Good luck.
Not constantly changing things until there is something significant to release is a path to the stability that I value. Meantime, packages run and the system works.
I never wanted a hobby, but rather an operating system. I’ve been using Pop! for over six years. I only had one stretch where I felt like I was chasing annoying bugs and I don’t remember it clearly enough to remember how long it lasted.
Excellent! I missed DaisyDisk. It looks great!

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which Linux tool or command is surprisingly simple, powerful, and yet underrated?"
3·1 year agoI keep mine in Bitwarden, I export that data every 3 months and store it in a Backblaze backup, I have it written on a piece of paper stored in a locked fire box in my house, and that paper scanned in my phone.
I can’t imagine not having at least one of those in 10 years and I can’t imagine all four failing in the same week.
Does that give you any helpful ideas that would work for you?

7·1 year agoUnderrated or not widely known?
I love lazygit and I’m still surprised at how many people are shocked when they see it for the first time. Not exactly a command, but a very handy text UI tool.
For more elementary tools, I can’t believe how many people know about ! and ctrl+r who don’t also know about fc and edit-and-execute-command.
This is one piece of software that has an update almost every time I open it and I’m never ever worried about updating it. 💪
Alternatively, use
fc 371to open the command in an editor and take your time figuring out how you might want to change it.

I guess it’s time for a “mark this time so I can go back to it” feature, to reduce the need to pause. 🤷♂️

I’m annoyed when things don’t work. I’m even more annoyed when something can’t be made to work.
I find the first kind of annoyance much more ephemeral.

Helix? I’ve never noticed a security problem.
