Linux@lemmy.ml•I found the easiest way to transfer files to and from my Linux PC - and it's so fast [ZDNET]
6·23 days agoI just install openssh server, because I need it anyways, and use an SFTP client to transfer files. Seems to be fast, secure, and easy. No new ports to open up.
I’ve transferred many terabytes of data this way, no complaints. Rsync is nice for syncing huge folders, and walking away, so I’ll also use that when the need arises.
I used windows 10 on my gaming PC for many years. I “upgraded” to 11, and it felt bad. The UI/ux was tolerable, but between the AI features and everything requiring a Microsoft account, it got on my nerves quickly.
I literally just wanted to upgrade the firmware on my Xbox one controller (so it’d work in Linux…) and that forced a login. At that point I logged in, upgraded my controller, formatted as ext4, and now I rarely look back.
Every once in a while a game will crash or not be playable on Linux, but I’d trade that for being in control of the hardware I’ve spent thousands on over the years.
Very happy with bazzite on my htpc and a kde based distro on my main computer. I pop over to my MacBook for casual computing, but for the real stuff I’ll never use windows again (barring being forced by future employers)

That said, I don’t particularly want someone else’s server equipment in my home unless I get root too.

1·2 months agoSame, I think deals on the lifetime pass still show up periodically, but I got it when it was about $40 too. It’s good software I use daily, so I’m happy with it.
Looks like on the last deal it was $120
Currently it is $250, which is too rich for my blood. Then again I just paid $70 for Doom the dark ages

22·2 months agoI played lots of borderlands 2 with my friends back in the day it was pretty fun.
Three came out, played it for a bit, but it was just more of the same and somehow worse. Then I watched that God awful movie.
I think I’m over the franchise, but maybe here in a few years I’ll pick it up for $5 in a summer sale.

How about we minimally figure out what actually happened before honoring a podcaster, who got killed, like he is a war hero?

Linux@lemmy.ml•ChimeraOS dev announced Kazeta, a new Linux OS aimed at recreating a classic console experience
91·2 months agoIt’s a cute idea, but seems like it is just going to generate a bunch of e-waste.
It isn’t as whimsical I guess, but a barcode scanner, NFC tags, or just picking a game from a menu would be my preference. I have actual retro systems, if I want to walk across the room to switch games.
I’m grinding through this one now. The graphics are great, and the game does feel like a modern doom, but the fun does seem to be lacking.
I’ll finish it, but don’t think I’d replay it.
