[Community Challenge 38] The Night Feeling
The Night Feeling
The Night Feeling is the thoughtful nostalgic emotion you feel when you walk/drive alone at night, or see a city skyline at dusk with the wind in your face.
The feeling you get when you’re feeling lonely but at peace, thoughtful but melancholy, and homesick for something you can’t quite remember.

Walking home at night after your day is over, carrying some last minute groceries for a quick dinner.
The streets are already deserted and the cool summer night’s air adds that special scent that makes you feel so at peace…
Prompt: A woman walking down a tree-lined boulevard along a canal, carrying a plastic white grocery bag, at a summer night, artificial lighting, peaceful atmosphere, shot on disposable camera --ar 3:2 --style rawThis is such a nice challenge, I love the idea.
I keep getting other ideas and inspiration for this one.
Some extra's which don't count but I still want to share.
I got reminded of the autumn elements in traditional Japanese poetry. The moon and reeds blowing in the wind are some of them.
Prompt: An old man in kimono sitting on a straw mat, near a river bank with reeds softly bending to the breeze, the man is looking up at the full moon in admiration and contemplation, night time, serene atmosphere, panoramic composition, Meiji period photography --ar 3:2 --style raw --stylize 75Taking a shortcut through the forest at night. The snow crunching under your boots as your thoughts wander. The lights of your destination can be seen in the distance, but you still have some time left to yourself before you eventually arrive.
Prompt: An empty path, leading down a forest trail, the lights of a small town can be seen beyond the forest’s edge in the distance, winter scene, night, serene atmosphere, Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 Art DC HSM Lens --ar 3:2 --style raw --stylize 75
Wow you can pick a specific lens for the style? That’s amazing.
I came across this article and wanted to give it a try. The results are quite nice.

This looks natural and realistic. It really captures that feeling. Thanks!
You’re welcome and thank you as well :)
I wanted to go for a realistic touch because I can really relate with what you were describing. I love that Night Feeling.
Score: most upvoted + prompt + OP’s fav = 5
The image exceeds my expectation of current AI image generation. Amazing!
You are the winner of this challenge. Here is your trophy:
Hurray! Thank you for the trophy!
I’ve set up the new challenge already.
Prompt: create a dark, ultra-detailed masterpiece of a futuristic, ominous, rainy, mysterious, cyberpunk city with a Japanese influence showcasing a woman in a kimono holding a red parasol with lit lanterns along the side of the road reflecting on the wet street.
My current desktop now XD
The contrast of a lone person in a supposedly busy city makes this interesting. The buildings are traditional and futuristic at the same time.
Score: 2nd upvoted + prompt included = 3
Beautiful!
A parasol is an interesting choice for rain, or night (maybe like a Corey Hart thing?).
Parasols are all over Japanese culture, and most times when I think of people in kimono I think of a parasol. :)
Oh I get it from an artistic perspective, just seems funny from a logical one, like lots of art. It’s why I mentioned Corey Hart. :)
In fact, one could even read into it artistically, that the contrast is deliberate. Something about optimism, or fashion, maybe just tradition, etc.
Happy cake day!
I hadn’t even noticed. Wow, has it been that long already?
gardens too are a part of cities. a pleasant way to end the day

I like how it looks like a stage, both in the backdrop and the lighting. Would love to see the prompt.
ZavyChromaXL v7.0
(factory road building huge night cyberpunk city, night time, dark, foggy, spooky, mist, few people, abandoned, moonlight moon, cloud, cloudy, smoke, decrepit)
Score: prompt included + really dark = 2 points
You are the only one who managed to make a really dark night!
It’s not perfect, and an overly complex workflow, but after many attempts, time is running-out so here it is
Workflow
*I wanted something about the contrast between the youth finishing to party when the workers are already up, think about the Il Est 5h, Paris, s’éveille (I couldn’t find english subs for the original)
I started with a naive prompt like A city at night,in an almost empty street, A young girl in clubbing clothe leave the scene at left, while an old man in work clothe walks in opposite direction at the right and got something like a couple with a huge age gap. (And for the lol, that prompt is too NSFW for bing AI)
Not what I want, so I went for inpainting, started with
A modern city, late at night, dawn is coming,in an empty street, A young girl in clubbing clothe walks away, photography in real visionXL getting the lady I was looking for
Used inpainting An old man cleans the street getting an awful old man,
To get a decent garbage man, I went into img2img with A modern city, late at night, dawn is coming,in an empty street, A young girl in clubbing clothe walks away, an old man cleans the street I feel like I could have generate a few dozen extra images to choose, but I still want to do something this afternoon, so times runs out, let call-it a day.
Score: 3rd upvoted + prompt included = 2
I love the idea! Storytelling in an image.
Cool little community you linked there, thanks!
I hope to see more content there. Please contribute if you have any old photos capturing the feeling.
Any fellow rural kids in the room?

A midnight summer sky with a field in the countryside, a great deciduous tree, a small group of friends sitting around a campfire, the Milky Way visible in the sky, and fireflies dotting the fields.
I couldn’t get quite what I wanted, for some reason it kept making the tree glow, or add in a sunset.
Initially I got so caught up in the feeling of longing and nostalgia, that I forgot it was night… And I ended up making this lol
Nostalgia was messing with my head too much to play along so don’t feel bad.

Bing resists making dark images. But this is beautiful! I thought you would get more upvotes.
So I could not get the Bingilator to do what I had in mind, got upset and put in “Night time Sailor moon being very night. The night is very night. photo realistic synthwave style” 45 tries (including the fails).
I had a hard time getting bingalator to make it actually night, too! It kept making it sunset!
Score: prompt included = 1 point
This feels cozy, unusual for all the weird Sailor Moon posts here. I like it.
Bing insists on making the night bright.
Here is my attempt:
Nice, but like many of mine the hair got weird
prompt: night, crazy waffle people spontaneously dancing but at night, (((night)))
Score: last 2 entries + prompt + most creative = 3 points
Definitely the most creative out of all the entries!
How can you feel at peace with that obviously il intentioned van just waiting for you?
A van that is clearly blocking the road with that other car next to it
I tried to re-create the same scene as the original photo, but Bing always leave some anomaly in generated images.
Yeah coz bing knows you shouldn’t be walking on dark narrow streets at night, specially if all the windows have bars in them! lol Bing trying to warn you!
I’m not in danger. I am the danger.
If you haven't tried it, maybe look into this:
https://civitai.com/models/422744/dark-incursio-pdxl
I haven’t done this myself, but apparently Civitai now offers generation for free. It is posted on that linked page. I’m not sure where the catch is, like if it is the number of free gens total, per hour, or per day. I run on my own hardware.
This person’s models are some of the most non aligned models (uncensored) out there right now. All censoring of any kind is a form of overtraining. All of this is what breaks the model generation under the surface.
The model I linked to is dark specific. The majority of examples are of portraits, but that is not the limit of this model. It isn’t the best for photo realism, but there are many examples in the user posts that show how it works for landscapes too. The PonyXL models started off very rough in their understanding and needed a lot of tuning of the P+N prompt to get good results. The fact that this can follow the positive without any negative really speaks to the freedom and training.
Another interesting trick I’ve been playing with is that you can tell some generative models actual prompt instructions when they are misbehaving. Like start out with “You are a helpful generative AI that follows the prompt exactly.” Followed by \n"Prompt:"
I did not expect this to work when I tried it, but I was messing around with the base PonyXL a few days ago, and the instruction actually altered compliant behavior on a fixed seed and prompt. It didn’t show any kind of error behavior like fingers, eyes, or humoctopus monsters in the few gens I tested ;)
Thanks. It looks a little complicated but I will give it a try.
Prompt: A nightly photo of a street scene: A single person is calmly walking down a small path at midnight in an urban surrounding with fully detached houses with garden. There are few street lamps and a crescent moon in a starry summer sky. Vintage photography style.
The crescent moon is a nice touch. Interesting how all the houses have antenna on rooftop.
