« They » is « a full-stack developer whose work has largely focused on working with web technologies ». You show you dislike lone developers building their own apps.

Well it’s the concept of not being fediverse. Point is one great developer running everything is awesome. However he’s tying it into bluesky… which also while it seems great on the surface right now, is still basically positioned that if it sells out it could be just as corrupted as Dorseys previous project

If I follow your concept “not being fediverse”, then Matrix or XMPP are not good because thy aren’t fediverse neither. I would disagree. Fediverse is only a part of the internet. Pinksky is linked to ATproto, which in deed is developped by the company Bluesky. If the company Bluesky is sold, then nothing forbid to build a new relay, however, the cost of building a full blown one is quite high. But smaller dedicated relay can be build. True that isn’t yet happening. PDS can be hosted privately already, and there are thousands non-bluesky-tied servers. Apps like Pinksky exsist and are not tied with the company Bluesky. The only part that is currently worrying me is the PLC server. Remember the very beginning of fediverse when it was under StatusNet Inc. It’s only years later that it became decentralised as we know it today. StatusNet Inc. could have it enshitiffied multiple times. I may be an optimist, the company Bluesky can go wrong, but can do right too.

I dislike bluesky. This app is built on bluesky and therefore I can lump it in with bluesky.

Since bluesky is a centrally controlled for profit platform. It will eventually close its doors to projects like pinksky once it gets big enough. So what is to celebrate?

Not really. The above person said I hate lone developers building their own apps. No, I just dont care unless its on a platform that aligns with my ideals.

I dont see any valve in apps built that help transition people into another corporate social media ecosystem. In 5 years bluesky will make the same userhostile choices of facebook, reddit, instagram, twitter.

Lemmy is based off of reddit, so fuck Lemmy right?

Japans constitution is based off of the US Constitution, so fuck Japan right?

The Space Program is built off of rockets that were used to kill people, so fuck the Saturn V, right?

I’m guessing no to all of those and the 30 others I can spit out because you’ve got little arguments built up for each one, but here’s the problem. You have to make arguments for each one because your entire stance is nonsense. It’s just “I before E comes after C.” Is it accurate for some things? Yes. Is it accurate for the majority? Absolutely not.

So, yes really. It is a truly insane way to live that is reductive, immature and just openly ignorant about how the world works. You have a one track mind that is so focused on hating something that you utterly and openly reject everything that comes after, regardless of how it might be different. That is helpful for literally no one. Personally? I’d recommend coming at it from a mature angle and actually judging it based on what it is. To not ignore the past, but to also not ignore the future either.

I’m not continuing this because you do not seem to be interested in anything other than the rut-stance you’ve chosen for yourself.

Given how things are going, I bet you’re right. Maybe Musk will create a Bluesky instance (or whatever that federalized yet centralized thing is called).

@RemindMe@mstdn.social in 5 years to check on the state of bluesky
